The Livermore City Council unanimously approved a 25-year power purchase agreement with AVA Community Energy on Feb. 10 to install solar panels and battery storage at five city facilities, city staff said.
City sustainability program manager Tricia Mento told the council the project covers City Hall, the Civic Center meeting hall, the maintenance service center, the police department and the water reclamation plant. Mento said the systems are intended to improve energy resilience by providing backup power during emergencies, reduce energy costs by discharging battery power when grid electricity is more expensive, and lower reliance on diesel generators. "The item before you tonight is consideration of a 25 year power purchase agreement with Ava Community Energy," Mento said.
The project will add solar carports that shade parking spaces: about 36 spaces at City Hall, 20 at the police department and four at the Civic Center meeting hall, Mento said.…
