Alex Greenwood addressed council and asked that $71,000 set aside in a downtown account be used to hire uniformed security officers to support the Cocoa Village area as residential development increases. Greenwood said the security option is less expensive than adding sworn officers and would provide visible presence downtown.
Council members and staff said the Cocoa Village Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is an appropriate forum for that funding request and asked staff to bring the proposal to the CRA for consideration at its next meeting. Staff said they will bring the item to the CRA and coordinate on scope and cost.
Separately, Greenwood and others raised the issue of golf‑cart use downtown and asked whether legal steps could be taken to make some vehicles street‑legal. City staff said legal research on low‑speed vehicle rules and golf‑cart regulation had already been completed and that any citywide changes would require careful drafting (for example, vehicle equipment standards and limits on where carts may operate). Council directed staff to schedule follow‑up and expected legal/operational options to be available in upcoming meetings.
