Network180 outlines expanded crisis continuum as county’s downtown behavioral health center opens
Summary
Network180 and city partners described a multi-component crisis system — telephonic dispatch, mobile behavioral-health response, co‑response with police, a downtown crisis center with a 16‑bed secure unit — and said the model reduced inpatient admissions and emergency-department use in 2024.

Network180 presented a briefing Feb. 11 on the countywide crisis continuum that now includes telephonic clinician support at sheriff’s dispatch, two mobile crisis teams (one behavioral-health only, one co‑response with GRPD) and a downtown behavioral‑health crisis center that opened in spring 2024.
Network180 and clinical leaders said the continuum is designed to provide the least‑restrictive interventions first and to reduce unnecessary emergency‑department visits, hospitalizations and jail admissions. The downtown crisis center — sited on the Trinity Health campus — contains a walk‑in brief intervention area plus a 16‑bed secure crisis‑stabilization unit offering voluntary and involuntary care for up to 72 hours. Network180 provided usage metrics showing thousands of brief interventions in 2024 and hundreds of secure‑unit admissions; staff reported an 18% reduction in certain inpatient psychiatric admissions year‑over‑year for cases funded by Network180.
Commissioners and staff asked how the system integrates with 911 dispatch (the sheriff’s office model is predominantly telephonic with the ability to dispatch clinicians into the field), how GRPD and mobile teams coordinate, and how community partners can help with public awareness about the center and other services. Network180 asked the commission to help amplify public information about the center while noting the organization’s limited communications staff.
Ending: Network180 said the system is operational and asked partners to help publicize services and to collaborate on follow‑up care and housing connections for people experiencing repeated crises.
