Appointments committee confirms a slate of board and commission members

The committee approved Commissioner Alicia Marie Belchak’s appointment of Andrew Fikema to the Public Safety Committee and confirmed Mayor David LeGrand’s appointments of Joseph Kuma and Andrew Smith to the Housing Appeals Board. Commissioners also confirmed Mateus Martinez and Vanessa Corvus to the Board of Review and approved commissioner appointments to the ACSET/West Michigan Works Governing Board.
Commissioners discussed outreach to identify additional candidates for bodies that still have openings — including community improvement authorities (CIAs) and the community relations commission — and asked staff to look at relevant ordinance language for the Affordable Housing Portfolio to guide selection and vetting of applicants. Commissioners said they will work with staff liaisons to check member attendance and availability before recommending replacements.
The committee ended the meeting by noting one resignation filed by Kyle Kimball from the Board of Review and urging residents to apply for openings.
