The Newark City Council Capital Improvements Committee on Feb. 18 approved two items and sent them to full council.
The committee approved an appropriation request of $35,000 to renovate a city-owned building used by amateur radio (ham) operators. The presenter said the structure on the right-hand side of the site is in disrepair; funds would be used to reskin the building, provide a workspace for operators and ensure the ham operators — described as a communications backstop during outages — have a reliable location. The appropriation was presented as a single resolution with two sections and passed by voice vote.
Separately, the committee approved an appropriation under the NatureWorks grant program to install a football court on city-owned land at Newark Station. The committee moved and seconded the item and recorded the vote as passing by voice.
Both items were forwarded to full council for final action.
