The board held a pre-budget public input hearing to solicit community priorities for the fiscal 2025–26 budget. No action was taken; staff said comments submitted since Jan. 7 and tonight's remarks will inform the manager's recommended budget. A local resident asked the board to pursue expanded museum space.
The Fuquay Varina Town Board opened a pre-budget public input hearing on Feb. 18 to collect community comment ahead of the manager's recommended fiscal 2025–26 budget. Assistant Town Manager Mark said the hearing is an early, pre-budget opportunity the town provides in addition to the state-required hearing after the manager’s recommended budget is released in May.
“The North Carolina General Statute requires one public hearing, which is after the town manager presents his recommended budget in May prior to the board considering its adoption. However, the town of Fuquay Varina has long given the public a dash more opportunity for community input,” Assistant Town Manager Mark said.
Staff said the town has accepted public input since Jan. 7 via the Let's Talk FV portal and will incorporate comments submitted there and at the hearing into the recommended budget development process. No board action was required at the Feb. 18 meeting.
During public comment, Eric Kristofferson, 504 East Academy Street, urged the board to consider expanding the Fuquay Varina Museum. “My understanding is that it's a non profit right now… the space is woefully inadequate, and I envision that… Fuquay Varina could have a world class museum that displays the wonderful history of our town,” Kristofferson said.
The mayor closed the hearing after public comment; staff and management will consider the input as they develop a recommended budget to present to the board later this spring.
