Fuquay Varina designates Edifice Construction as top candidate to negotiate construction-manager-at-risk for Public Service Center Phase 2

The Fuquay Varina Town Board on Feb. 18 designated Edifice Construction as the town’s best-qualified firm to provide construction-manager-at-risk services for Public Service Center Phase 2 and authorized the town manager to negotiate scope and fee, Public Works Director Tracy Stevenson said.

“We selected Withers and Ravenel and Teepel Architects to do the design for that project,” Stevenson said, describing the earlier design selection. After soliciting proposals and holding interviews, staff concluded that Edifice Construction was the best-qualified firm and recommended negotiating with them. “Edifice construction has a history of providing quality services to municipal clients, including us,” Stevenson said, citing the Hilltop Needmore Town Park Community Center project as prior work.

Stevenson said the town reviewed proposals, interviewed two firms and designated Bobbitt as the second-qualified firm in case negotiations with Edifice cannot reach agreement on scope and fee. The board voted to authorize the town manager or his designee to negotiate the scope and fee subject to town attorney review, consistent with the North Carolina General Statute cited by staff.

No contract amount was approved at the Feb. 18 meeting; staff told the board a future agenda item will present the negotiated scope and fee for formal contract award.
