Board member Stacy said the company specializes in school energy rebate programs that became available to schools in 2023, and that rebates identified for the district could be "upwards of 400,000" in the company's estimates. Stacy told the board the firm's fee, if a rebate is secured, would be about 10% of recovered funds and the firm bills by time; if the work is stopped early, costs would be significantly lower (Stacy cited an example of about $5,000 if the firm determines an opportunity is not viable after initial review).
"Sometimes we gotta spend a little money to get a little money back," Stacy said, summarizing the finance committee discussion. Officials said the process is complex and would likely not yield funds until fiscal 2026; the district expects the consultant to handle application work and documentation and to rely on district staff for site access and technical information.
The motion to approve the agreement passed on voice vote with no recorded roll call.
