Summary
City staff told the Buildings and Grounds Committee that the Patapsco Chamber of Commerce plans an Oct. 19 hometown festival at Foundation Park, the city will apply for a $10,000 Energy Co‑op grant to run power to a shelter house, and two weathered park signs will be replaced with one to carry a soccer‑league banner split at cost.
Chris, a city staff member, told the Pataskala City Buildings and Grounds Committee that the Patapsco Chamber of Commerce plans to hold a hometown festival at Foundation Park on Sunday, Oct. 19, for about four hours.
The event will include family activities similar to an egg hunt, bouncy houses, a DJ and possibly a petting zoo, Chris said, and organizers will complete the city's standard work‑usage agreement before the event goes forward.
The committee also discussed a potential grant application to extend electricity from an existing pedestal at Foundation Park's McIntosh side to a shelter house near the gravel access drive to Conway Trail. Chris said staff found an Operation Roundup grant from the Energy Co‑op that would cover up to $10,000 of the estimated $10,817 cost for the electric and lighting installation. "If we can get the grant, it'll cost the city $817 and we can have the electric and the lights back there," Chris said. He added that security cameras are a longer‑term plan and would be considered for next year's budget if the electric work is completed.
The committee also approved replacing two weathered park signs: one on McIntosh Drive to be replaced as is, and one on John Rees Parkway that will carry an added banner across the bottom displaying the Patasco Soccer League and PFC Extreme soccer logos. Chris said the soccer group offered to split the approximately $600 cost, paying $300 toward the John Rees Parkway sign.
Committee members raised no objections during the meeting. Chris said more details will be brought back as plans firm up and that the grant application is pending selection by the Energy Co‑op.
Ending: Staff said that if the Operation Roundup application is not selected, the city will not pursue the electric work this year and that camera installation would be considered later as part of next year's budget process.
