CASA representatives told Vigo County commissioners they are celebrating the program’s 40th anniversary and highlighted volunteer contributions and casework in the region.
Glenna, a CASA representative, told the commissioners, “Casa has been around Wabash Valley for 40 years.” She said the local program has served about 19,664 children over that period and has delivered roughly 210,000 volunteer hours to the community.
The presentation emphasized CASA’s reach in the school system. Glenna said that from February 2008 to February 2024 CASA served 11,656 children and that, according to the Vigo County website cited during the presentation, the county’s school corporation enrolls about 13,524 children. “We are serving 703 right now, which is 5% of the school corporation’s number,” she said. Glenna later added more casework figures, saying the program was handling 742 active petitions and serving 703 children at the time of the meeting, with 33 volunteers and 17 staff members; she noted about half of the staff members work part time.
Commissioners thanked the CASA representatives for the work. One commissioner said, “I don’t think there’s — I haven’t seen any other groups work any harder than you guys,” and invited people to visit a display the program had put up in the courthouse hallway. Glenna invited attendees to view the display and to share it on social media; she also handed out 40th‑anniversary pins.
The presentation was delivered as part of a short business meeting that included routine approvals. No formal action on CASA funding or program changes was recorded during the presentation.
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a nonprofit that trains volunteers to advocate for children in juvenile court and child welfare cases. The group framed the anniversary as both a celebration and an opportunity to highlight ongoing volunteer needs and case volume in Vigo County.
