Chair Evans told the DuPage County Judicial and Public Safety Committee on Feb. 18 that House Bill 4,144 had been signed the previous Monday and that county judicial and public-safety stakeholders asked for more time to prepare an implementation update.
“We've reached out to a majority of the judicial and public safety stakeholders and asked about what they intend to do to ensure that the, the law is enacted,” Evans said. He added that officials told him they needed more time because the bill had just been signed, and that staff expect a presentation or update to come to the committee next month.
Evans referred to the measure as “Karina's bill” during chair remarks. No committee action was taken on the bill during the Feb. 18 meeting; Evans said the update he provided was for information only.
The committee did not schedule or vote on implementation steps at the Feb. 18 meeting; staff indicated they will coordinate with stakeholders and return with a presentation.
