Orinda council appoints ad hoc committee to coordinate 40th anniversary events

The Orinda City Council on Feb. 18 formed a two-member ad hoc subcommittee to coordinate outreach and local events marking the city’s 40th year of incorporation.
Council member Hoxie and Council member Riley volunteered to serve as the ad hoc committee and will reach out to community organizations such as the Orinda Historical Society, the Orinda Association and local foundations to assess interest in commemorations ranging from a special anniversary logo and small displays to partnering on booths at existing community events.
The council discussed options including a proclamation, an anniversary logo and handouts, historical displays in city facilities, and modest presence at existing events such as concerts in the park or the Fourth of July parade rather than a standalone large gala. Council members noted the city’s limited staff capacity and recommended partnering with community groups for larger events.
The council approved two motions: one to form the ad hoc subcommittee and a second to appoint Council members Hoxie and Riley to it. The committee will report back to the council with suggested next steps.
