House adopts resolution honoring Bennington police canine Gracie

Montpelier — The Vermont House read and adopted House Concurrent Resolution 11 on Feb. 18, a memorial honoring the late Bennington Police Department canine officer Gracie for her service and community presence.
The resolution recounts Gracie’s more than 500 deployments, the location of more than 70 persons, and recovery of drugs and currency valued in excess of $1,600,000. It notes Gracie’s community outreach at schools, nursing homes and public events, and it memorializes her sudden death on Nov. 28, 2024. The resolution directs the secretary of state to send a copy to the Bennington Police Department, Police Chief Paul J. Doucette Jr., Lieutenant Camilo A. Grande, and Officer Robert Morawski, Gracie’s handler.
A member from Bennington spoke on the floor, thanking Officer Robert Morawski, Police Chief Paul Doucette, and Lieutenant Steve Cote of the Vermont State Police for their service and noting that more than 500 people attended Gracie’s memorial. The member requested that the chamber extend condolences to the department and Gracie’s admirers and recognized guests seated in the gallery.
The House observed a reading of the resolution pursuant to the consent calendar and formally adopted it. Visitors from the Bennington Police Department and media were acknowledged and recognized in the chamber.
