Pearson said Siouxland provides a high share of trips originating in Woodbury County (staff referenced roughly 45% of the system-wide ridership coming from Woodbury County) and described workforce recruitment and fleet expansion plans, including a federal discretionary grant application for facility expansion. He said the system runs routes for general public and paratransit services and noted the actual operating cost per trip is substantially higher than passenger fares.
County supervisors moved to receive the funding request and approved the contribution from gaming funds for the amount requested. Staff said the gaming fund is used for such recurring regional support in years when the board approves it and that the county will review other gaming requests as they come in.
