Board approves 10% pay increase for juvenile-detention director
Summary
After discussion of comparables and job demands the board approved a 10% salary increase for the juvenile-detention director effective Feb. 18.
The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to raise the juvenile-detention directorsalary by 10% effective Feb. 18.
Supervisor Matthew Young introduced the motion, saying, “I'm proposing today, salary increase of at least 10% for the juvenile detention director effective today.” He noted the countyposition pays $89,838 and cited a Pottawattamie County comparable of $107,000.
Board members praised the directorfor running the center with minimal issues and highlighted the directorresponsibility for managing changing regulations, separation/classification requirements for youth, and efforts to generate revenue for the county. The motion carried 5–0; Supervisor Young moved the increase and Supervisor Martin Nelson seconded.
Why it matters: supervisors said the position has not had a substantive adjustment since 2017 and that the responsibilities and regulatory complexity justify the change. County staff will update payroll records to reflect the increase.
