Jackson City Council approves equipment purchases, software rollout and multiple appointments

Jackson City Council on Feb. 4 approved a series of budget amendments to fund public-works equipment, security upgrades at the animal care facility, a citywide ticketing (311) system and several board appointments.

The actions, taken during the council's regular meeting, included appropriations for a tandem truck with wet pack for street maintenance, a paving machine to enable in-house paving, a grant-funded shredder truck, a $50,000 transfer to add cameras and an access-control system at animal care, and funding to implement a Tyler-based ticketing system to consolidate citizen service requests. Council members also confirmed appointments to the budget committee, Keep Jackson Beautiful and the Jackson Downtown Revenue Finance Corporation. Each motion carried on a unanimous 7–0 vote.

The council heard brief explanations from city staff before votes. Nathan, a city staff member, said two items had been overlooked in the FY2025 budgeting process and therefore required appropriation of fund balance to authorize the purchases.
