Board approves construction-management and moving RFPs, OKs insurance-covered gym floor repair

Rutherford described using a construction-manager-at-risk procurement and an AIAA 121 base contract template that would leave Exhibit A (scope, time, and cost) blank until funds are available. He cited Florida Statute 287.05 as the state procurement authority that governs the process and emphasized a 28-day advertisement window and the timing challenge of ordering materials and contractors ahead of summer work.
The board approved the RFP for construction management services on a motion by Ms. Thompson, seconded by Ms. Hagan; the transcript records the vote as unanimous (5-0). The board also approved an RFP for moving services, which the district said will allow vendors to bid to move furniture and equipment from smaller schools to central campuses; that motion carried 5-0 (mover: Ms. Hagan; second: Ms. Knight).
Insurance-covered gym repair: The board accepted a contractor quote for $152,500 to replace the central school gym floor after flood damage during hurricanes. The district reported the full amount will be covered by insurance and that the deductible will be paid from a claimed insurance source so the district will not owe out-of-pocket; the motion to approve the gym repair was moved by Ms. Thompson and seconded by Ms. Gibson and carried 5-0.
Timing and next steps: District staff said proposal timelines and exact procurement dates will be finalized to meet statute and board meeting schedules; if funding is released the agreements will allow the district to issue bids and start procurement quickly. The district also said some exterior and facade items might be prioritized to avoid long lead times.
