The Gaston County Board of Education unanimously adopted the meeting agenda, approved minutes from Jan. 30, approved the consent agenda and later voted to go into closed session during its Feb. 17 meeting.
Board Chairman Josh Crispin called for adoption of the agenda; the motion was made by Brent Moore and seconded by Janice Smith and carried with no opposition. The board then voted to approve the Jan. 30, 2025 regular meeting minutes and the Jan. 30 board retreat minutes; that motion was made by Dot Cherry and seconded by A.M. Stevens and carried unanimously. A separate motion from Jeff Ramsey, seconded by A.M. Stevens, carried to approve the consent agenda.
Later in the meeting the board voted to enter closed session under North Carolina General Statute 143-318.11(a)(3),(5) and (6); the motion was made by Dot Cherry, seconded by Janice Smith, and approved unanimously. The meeting closed after the board completed its closed-session business; the motion to close the meeting was moved by Lee Dedmon and seconded by Todd Kinlaw and carried.
These routine procedural votes concluded the public portion of the board's Feb. 17 meeting.
