Commission accepts single bidder for county weed chemicals; prices listed in bid packet

Codington County commissioners approved acceptance of the county's weed-chemical bids at their Feb. 18 meeting after staff recommended awarding the single bidder's submitted prices.
Steve, the county's facility/weed-control staff member who presented the item, said Van Dees Supply Company of Webster City, Iowa, was the only bidder for the weed-chemical line and read per-gallon prices into the record. Steve said the products and per-gallon amounts were delivered pricing in 250-gallon totes where indicated.
Among the items read aloud were an aquatic glyphosate at $20.75 per gallon and Roundup Pro concentrate listed at $18.30 per gallon; 2,4-D amine was recorded at $17.05 per gallon. Steve noted the county had seen price increases tied to supply issues and trade restrictions. “I do know that this is, that has gone up quite a bit,” he said.
A motion to accept the bids was made by Commissioner McElhaney and seconded by Commissioner Gable. “All in favor, say aye,” the chair called; the motion carried.
Steve recommended accepting the single bidder given the limited responses; commissioners approved the purchase authorization so staff can obtain the chemicals as needed for county weed-control work this season.
The bid packet lists multiple herbicides and surfactants; staff noted these prices are per-gallon and that delivery units and some items had specific packaging definitions in the bids.
