The board introduced Ryan Lopez as Del Norte County’s new code enforcement officer and the single employee designated to run the Del Norte Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Service Authority.
Chair Dean Wilson told the board the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Service Authority was created under a county ordinance that adds a $1 annual fee to vehicle registration to create a fund for towing and processing abandoned vehicles. Wilson said the authority’s board is the same membership as the Solid Waste Management Authority but that the AVA operates as a separate legal body established by ordinance.
Ryan Lopez introduced himself to the board: “Hi, Ryan Lopez, code enforcement. I’ve been on for a few years now. I know a few of the board members already,” he said, and added that Dominic had trained him on staff report procedures and that he would present a status report on the AVA at next month’s meeting.
Why it matters: the county ordinance and the $1-per-vehicle fee create a dedicated funding pool to remove abandoned vehicles from public streets and to process them according to state and local requirements. Lopez’s position centralizes day-to-day AVA work with county code enforcement.
Staff said Lopez will provide a status report at the next meeting describing early AVA activity and any operational needs or policy questions that should come before the board.
