Brazosport ISD OKs joint election agreement with Brazoria County for May 3, 2025 vote

Brazosport ISD trustees approved a joint election agreement and contract with the Brazoria County Elections Department to conduct a joint election on May 3, 2025, which will include the district’s 2025 bond referendum and elections for several board trustee seats.

Administration presented the contract as consistent with Board policy and Texas Government Code requirements for joint elections. Miss Cancino explained a joint election reduces per‑polling‑place costs by sharing locations with other political subdivisions and offers additional early‑voting sites familiar to voters. The district recommended the board authorize the president and secretary of the board to execute the contract.

The board-approved joint election will cover the bond referendum and trustee elections for District 4 and District 5 plus a special election for District 3. The board book listed candidates who had filed: incumbent Liz Claire for District 4, Kenneth Schulte for District 3, and Chris Dunn and Janessa Castro for District 5. Trustees discussed the list of voting locations and a request to ensure accessible polling places for specific neighborhoods (Ridgewood and Crossroads were mentioned) and cautioned that adding early-voting locations beyond the county proposal could add cost that would fall solely on the district.

Motion to approve the joint election agreement passed after discussion; the administration noted the county would perform election‑day services while each political subdivision retains non‑delegable duties. The board directed administration to coordinate with the county on polling locations and to pursue clarifications about precinct listings so voters can easily find their correct site.
