The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to award a total of $322,195 in opioid‑settlement funding to six local organizations for prevention, treatment and recovery services.
The county’s Community Services Department issued a request for applications and recommended funding for six proposals that met goals in the county needs assessment: Carson Valley Health, Partnership Douglas County, Community Counseling Center, Tahoe Youth & Family, Family Support Council and the Suicide Prevention Network. The board authorized the Community Services Director to finalize contracts for each funded organization.
Brooke Adey, Douglas County Community Services Director, briefed the board on the program and said the approved awards will support a mix of services: therapy groups and provider training (Carson Valley Health); school‑age prevention programming and juvenile‑probation supports (Partnership Douglas County); co‑payment and deductible assistance for treatment (Community Counseling Center); peer support and SBIRT screening and weekly recovery support (Tahoe Youth & Family); education and ACEs screening for at‑risk youth and families (Family Support Council); and harm‑reduction outreach and recovery groups (Suicide Prevention Network).
The funds are part of the state‑coordinated “1 Nevada” allocation from national opioid litigation settlements. The county must submit an annual report to the state on how award dollars are spent and on program outcomes; Adey said the county will compile quarterly reports from contractors and an annual outcome submission for the state.
Commissioner Rice moved the funding authorization; Commissioner Tarkanian seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
