Parks staff report repairs to Liberty Pond dock, ADA lift purchase, events schedule and Snipplemas planning

Parks and Recreation staff reported multiple operational updates to the Churchill County Parks and Recreation Commission, including repairs to the dock at Liberty Pond, the completion of a new cottage-school pod, purchases for the aquatic center and upcoming events at county facilities.
Jorge, representing Parks and Recreation, said the repaired Liberty Pond dock “was extremely needed” and that the department opened the dock after a contractor completed repairs. He said the service reduced a liability and improved recreational access for fishing and other pond users. The department worked with the Rotary Club on funding for shade structures and on contributions toward the dock repair.
Jorge said the department completed a third pod for the cottage-school summer program and plans a spring ribbon-cutting; he said the Rotary Club donated funds for a shade structure used during summer lunch for participating children. He also reported that the department purchased a new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) lift for the aquatic center that had been requested in last year’s budget.
Staffing remains a concern: Jorge said the department is filling a seasonal position and another regular position and still seeks to fill an office position and a custodial position; an additional park position at the cemetery also remains open. He said advertising for vacancies had recently occurred.
Jorge described an event schedule that includes a state wrestling tournament held at county facilities (with finals scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday), a bull sale and associated rodeo events and dinners featuring entertainment, and subsequent youth wrestling tournaments and other county events.
On a longer-term project identified as “Snipplemas,” staff said Feb. 14 opens the window to begin designing the project and to develop an agreement with the Bureau of Land Management; the department expects a one-year window to complete design and to start drawing down funds for field and event-complex improvements.
