Coliseum nears completion; board approves small net reduction in contract after change orders

The MAPS for Citizen Advisory Board received a construction update Feb. 6 on the Fairgrounds Coliseum and approved a change‑order package reported to slightly lower the contract price compared with the original bid.
Travis Pauley of Populous gave a photo‑heavy update showing exterior panel installation, the plaza facing the fairgrounds, interior concourse and lounge finishes, seating installation and mechanical, electrical and plumbing progress. Pauley said interior climate control systems are operating in many areas, kitchens and walk‑in coolers are installed, and seating installation is underway. He reiterated the project remains on schedule for substantial completion on June 1, 2025.
Pauley reviewed a set of unplanned items summarized as change orders: restroom wall adjustments to clear a raker beam, enclosing data rooms for dedicated HVAC, stair wall fur‑out to route electrical, additional underground concrete removals in two locations, power provision to a gas meter and ADA operator, revised aluminum door hinges, elevator emergency backup wiring, and soil remediation where compaction failed. Pauley reported the listed items totaled $86,049 and that net change orders currently result in a $241,287 savings versus the original bid, making the current contract price $126,234,713. He said the change orders do not change the substantial completion date.
A board member asked about audiovisual equipment; Pauley confirmed a retractable center‑hung scoreboard and that the hoist equipment is installed. After the presentation the board approved the change‑order package; the transcript records a motion and the chair saying "motion passes" but does not include a roll‑call tally.
Construction work to expect in the coming months includes finishing exterior panel installation, completing arena seating and railings, continuing ceiling and lighting work, finishing restrooms and concessions, finishing MEP work, and plaza and street work on Gordon Cooper Boulevard and Chisholm Trail. Staff said they will begin punch‑list work in April and continue toward the June substantial completion date.
