The request was heard during the commission's public comment period before the panel moved to votes on routine business and the funding item. Reynolds said her business, in operation since 2007, employs six Fallon residents and offers on-site fabrication of panels, gates, shelters and custom work. She noted the business recently engaged an engineer to produce calculations for its shelter product and referenced earlier county-level funding conversations tied to the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act.
After reports from department staff on recent county events, including the Top Gun bull-riding event, the commission took formal action on the funding request for arena materials. Commissioner Eva Case made the motion to approve the use of $10,000 from the Residential Construction Tax Fund for the arena expansion; the motion was seconded and the commission approved it. The motion record shows the funds are designated to purchase “panels and gates as needed for the expansion.”
The commission also approved the meeting agenda as submitted and tabled approval of minutes from the Dec. 17 meeting because draft minutes were not yet complete. A separate agenda item (No. 7) was tabled to the next meeting. Commissioners set the next Parks and Recreation Commission meeting for Feb. 3.
Department staff gave a committee report noting that the Top Gun event drew an estimated 3,000 attendees and that organizers estimated roughly $600,000 in economic impact; staff said about 500 of those attendees were from out of state and another 1,300 came from within about 30 miles of Fallon. The department said event expenses are typically covered by participant fees and sponsorships and that the commission aims for roughly 70% of event costs to be recovered through those sources.
No formal decision on vendor selection or a formal bidding timeline for the arena expansion was recorded at the meeting. Reynolds said she had separately contacted the county commissioners and wanted the Parks and Recreation Commission to hear her request; the county-level procurement or bidding process was not described in detail during the commission discussion.
