The Oklahoma City Arts Commission on Feb. 17 voted to approve a 1,500‑square‑foot indoor mural by artist Scott Henderson for the Senior Health and Wellness Center at 3748 North Lincoln Boulevard in Ward 7.
Arts and Cultural Affairs project manager Leandre Lattimore told commissioners the mural, currently untitled, will be installed inside the center’s natatorium and is inspired by the six dimensions of wellness (occupational, emotional, physical, social, intellectual and spiritual). Lattimore said the artist will lightly sand the wall, apply paint recommended by the building’s construction team and finish the work with a mural protectant intended to extend the piece’s life in a humid environment.
Commissioners had no substantive questions during the presentation and the commission voted to approve the item. The vote was announced as passed; the meeting transcript does not record a roll‑call tally or the motion maker and seconder by name.
Commission staff described the installation process and the measures intended to protect the mural inside a humid pool area. Lattimore said staff had discussed preparations with the building’s constructors and were “ensured” that the recommended surface preparation and protectant would mitigate humidity concerns and provide a normal indoor mural lifespan.
The commission’s approval forwards the project to the next steps for installation scheduling and coordination with the wellness center’s operators. The artist (Scott Henderson) is already in the city’s roster of past contributors to public art projects, the presenter said.
The commission moved on to subsequent agenda items after the vote.
