Broken Arrow City Council approved a memorandum of understanding to resolve a disagreement between the city and the International Association of Firefighters Local 2551 regarding newly implemented paramedic training and a 40‑hour work week for certain firefighters.
“Included in that settlement is the, 1 and a half percent, pay increase that would be effective July first of 2024, as well as an additional pay increase effective 01/01/2025,” the fire chief told council. The MOU also conditions pay for bargaining‑unit members who obtain a paramedic license on receiving the medical director’s authorization to operate on the ambulance.
The MOU packages an expedited voluntary 40‑hour work‑week option intended to allow trained personnel to obtain the medical director’s authorization more quickly and begin ambulance service sooner. Justin Sharp, president of IAF Local 2551, told council the union membership voted overwhelmingly in favor of the agreement and thanked city leaders for the negotiation.
