Superintendent updates: fundraiser, ELA curriculum renewal, and two administrative departures

Superintendent Dr. Smith and Assistant/Administrator Ms. Drennan provided district updates at the Jan. 27 Upper Dublin School District board meeting, including a fundraising total, curriculum work and staffing changes.
Dr. Smith said the district hosted its first Cardinal Conversations session with about 15–20 community attendees and announced the proposed appointment of Dr. Luther Green Jr. as athletic director. She also reported that Prakash Patel, the district’s director of innovation and technology, has accepted an administrative position in another district, and that Peter Velacci, coordinator of data quality, integration and reporting, will retire in March after more than 15 years of service.
Ms. Drennan said the Harlem Wizards event was sold out and raised "over $30,000" for UDAF and UDEA student scholarships and that many teachers and 16 corporate sponsors participated. She also said the ELA curriculum renewal process has begun: the first meeting included more than 30 teachers, administrators and coaches who set a vision, reviewed historical data and completed a SWOT analysis; the next phase will start in February with research and a self‑study and needs assessment to be presented to the board in May.
Dr. Smith and Ms. Drennan thanked board members during School Board Appreciation Month; the meeting included multiple student recognitions and gifts from schools.
