Russ Gamble of the Augusta Canal Authority told the commission the project already has a $500,000 grant from the state and the authority will manage project invoices and work with the city on easements. Gamble described the bridge location as under the I‑20 bridge between Topgolf and Bass Pro Shop and said the authority has incurred early expenses such as a $12,500 engineering invoice.
Commissioner George Johnson asked whether the city would have any financial commitment; Gamble replied there is none. The MOU was moved for approval and seconded; the item passed on the floor as a consent/regular agenda action.
The MOU will allow the canal authority to move forward with easement acquisition and trail construction management. Staff did not report a direct city capital contribution at the meeting; the authority said state funding has been secured and will be used to pay project invoices.
