Penn State Extension reports hires, 4-H numbers and March fundraising auction to Lawrence County commissioners

Craig Conforti, client relationship manager for Penn State Extension, briefed the Lawrence County Commissioners on Feb. 18 about staffing, upcoming events and local 4‑H participation.
Conforti said Penn State Extension has added agronomists Stephen Campbell (based in Butler, serving Lawrence County) and Erin Kaprinka (stationed in Mercer, also serving Lawrence County) and that Maddie Forkler has filled the animal-systems educator role in Mercer County. “She grew up in the 4‑H system here in Lawrence County,” Conforti said.
Conforti told the board the county’s annual 4‑H auction is scheduled for Saturday, March 22, starting at 6 a.m., and solicited donations; proceeds support scholarships for club members attending regional and state events. He reported that last year Extension recorded 331 club members and 923 group enrollments in Lawrence County, a total of 1,254 participant enrollments.
Commissioners thanked Extension for the update and asked about the date of the Ag Resource Network meeting; Conforti said he would confirm and share details with county staff. Conforti said Extension intends to appear before the commissioners quarterly to provide program updates.
The presentation was an informational update during the public comment/announcements portion of the meeting and did not require an action vote by the board.
