Smyrna council approves CDBG subrecipient agreement and consent items including festival alcohol permit and Little League parade

The City of Smyrna Mayor and Council approved several administrative and event items during the meeting, including authorizing the city to continue as a subrecipient of Cobb County's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program for 2025 and approving a consent agenda with event permits and meeting minutes.

CDBG: City staff described the subrecipient arrangement with Cobb County under which Smyrna would receive $188,089.60 in 2025 for a public facilities project and for administration and planning. Council approved the 2025 subrecipient agreement and authorized the mayor to sign the documents. The motion passed on a voice vote recorded as 5-0.

Consent agenda: Council approved the consent agenda by voice vote, 5-0. Items listed by staff included approvals of recent meeting minutes (COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE minutes from Jan. 30, 2025; pre-council minutes from Feb. 3, 2025; and mayor and council meeting minutes from Feb. 3, 2024), authorization for Vineyard Wine Market (in Smyrna Village Bourbon and Cigar Bar) to operate a mobile beer, wine and liquor bar during the "Smyrna Is Fabulous" Bridal Festival on June 28, 2025 (vendor must still secure special-event permits and state alcohol approval), and approval of the Smyrna Little League Opening Day Parade on March 15, 2025 with rolling road closures and police presence along the specified route from Campbell Middle School to Brinkley Park. Council also noted the parade will include more than 1,200 participants this year, per remarks during the meeting.
