Weslaco ISD presents Lone Star governance/TAPR data; attendance and college/career outcomes highlighted

Mr. Solano (district staff) presented Weslaco ISD's Lone Star governance district report and the TAPR (Texas Academic Performance Report) data to the board during the required annual public hearing on Feb. 20. He told trustees that the presentation was based on 2023–24 data released in the district's report and noted that some statewide accountability designations remain unavailable due to ongoing litigation.

The presentation showed a district attendance rate of 93.4 for the most recently reported year (2022–23), an improvement from the prior year, and indicated decreases in dropout rates. Mr. Solano said the district's CCMR metric for the Class of 2023 was 93.7, which he identified as above regional and state comparators in the presentation. The report also summarized graduation rates and postsecondary destinations and included district staffing and salary comparisons: the district reported a high share of experienced teachers and an average principal experience above the state average.

Mr. Solano noted that official A–F campus and district ratings and distinction designations were again not released for the year because of pending litigation involving the Texas Education Agency; he said the district continues to analyze available state data and submit local action plans. Trustees asked specific questions about reading and math curriculum adoption timelines; Mr. Solano and Dr. Rivera said the district will pursue grant opportunities and meet with Region 1 staff to consider adoptions and implementation timelines.

Trustees praised the district for the attendance gains and for high CCMR and graduation measures. Board members also requested further detail on career and technical education (CTE) certification offerings and readout of AP/dual-enrollment participation options so the board can assess program alignment to students' college and career choices.

Less critical details: the presentation included standard TAPR sections on revenue sources, how money is spent by function code, and a glossary of terms. The presenter said some specialized designations such as special-education determination status remain unresolved because of state litigation.
