Dalton council approves $35,000 contract for July 4 fireworks show

City staff told the Dalton mayor and council on Feb. 17 that the city received a single bid for the annual Fourth of July fireworks show and recommended approval within the budgeted amount of $35,000.
The staff presenter said the vendor has provided the city’s fireworks in prior years and that the planned show will run about 20 to 25 minutes with a breakdown of shells and firing methods provided in the bid packet. “It’ll be a good 20 to 25 minute show that, what we're used to,” the presenter said.
Council members asked whether the display would take place on July 4 and whether the launch site would return to the fairgrounds near John Davis Park. Staff confirmed the event will be on July 4 and said the fireworks will be shot from the fairgrounds with the best public viewing at John Davis Park; restrooms at the park will be evaluated for access. Heritage Point will remain available to the public, staff added.
A motion to approve the bid was made and seconded; the council voted by voice to approve the contract. The transcript records a voice vote with members responding “Aye” and no roll-call tally recorded.
No supplemental public-safety or permitting conditions were discussed on the record during the approval; staff did not give the vendor’s name on the public transcript.
