Minnehaha County commissioners approved a medical cannabis dispensary license application from Genesis Farms LLC after county staff reported the application met statutory and local requirements.
Kim Christianson of the auditor’s office said the application was reviewed by the state’s attorney and the county planning department. The applicant’s proposed location required — and received — a conditional-use permit from the Minnehaha County Planning and Zoning Commission in November; no appeals were filed. Christianson told commissioners the auditor’s office determined the application met the county’s requirements and that one license was available under county ordinance, which was amended last year to allow a rolling application period.
Daniel Schutloffel, introduced as the store manager for an existing Sioux Falls location, told the commission construction has begun at the new site and that the applicant expects to open close to March if approvals proceed smoothly. He said the applicant had held a meet-and-greet with nearby residents to address questions.
After public comment, a commissioner moved to approve the license; the motion was seconded and carried. The commission recorded the approval on a roll call and announced the motion carried.
