Commission awards courthouse fire‑alarm and Old Courthouse museum roof contracts

Mark Krenz, director of facilities and construction, said the county received three bids for the courthouse fire alarm panel replacement; Electric Construction Company submitted the low bid of $862,323. Krenz confirmed funding is available in the building fund and said the project will be included in a supplemental request in March; the commission approved the award by roll call vote.
Krenz also presented bids for repair work at the Old Courthouse Museum. The county received one sealed bid and a set of alternates. After reviewing mobilization and equipment costs, Krenz recommended accepting the base bid of $857,500 and accepting alternates 1 and 3 for a total contract amount of $1,263,100. Bill Hoskins, director of Siouxland Heritage Museums, told the commission the museum's roof leaks and the work is needed to stop ongoing water intrusion. Krenz said window replacements have a lead time for materials and that the historic building requires certain repair methods; alternates included joint sealant and tuckpointing options. Commissioners approved the museum contract by roll call vote.
Krenz said both projects will begin when materials and weather allow and reiterated that both projects have funding available in the building fund.
