Owner of 2954 Main Street reports construction delays, expects mid‑summer finish

A representative for the 2954 Main Street project told the board the project is behind schedule largely because columns on the front of the house required demolition and reconstruction, which in turn delayed engineering and prevented excavation of the rear addition while scaffolding was in place.
The speaker said successive periods of bad weather further delayed work; once the foundation excavation was completed staff hoped to pour the foundation in the next warm spell and resume work. The contractor said framing for the rear addition would be substantially complete in spring, with interior finishes to follow, and estimated a project completion of around July to mid‑August depending on weather and funding for some front‑porch elements.
The contractor said about $3,540,000 was spent stabilizing and shoring up the front of the house, consuming much of the original porch budget; because of that the porch will be built temporarily with plans to add a covered porch when additional funds are raised. The contractor also said original face brick was salvaged and stored on site, mortar was chipped off over months, and a mason is lined up to rebrick at least the front of the house; however, much of the reclaimed brick is damaged and the owner is still evaluating options for brick matching and the extent of re‑bricking.
Trustees asked if the contractor would report back; the board and contractor agreed to aim for the first board meeting in May for the next update.
