Blackstone Parks & Recreation reviews Hometown Christmas, Santa parade and Bling Up Blackstone winners

Committee members reviewed the town’s Hometown Christmas events and the Santa parade, thanked sponsors and volunteers and recognized the winners of the “Bling Up Blackstone” holiday‑decoration contest.

Committee members named local businesses and organizations that supported the events: Dean Bank (hot dogs), Open Road Cycles (hot chocolate), BZ Leaf Lifters (costume/character), the Blackstone Valley Community Concert Band, the Knights of Columbus, the National Honor Society student volunteers, the animal shelter and community groups that donated time or materials. The committee said the parade and tree lighting drew volunteers and positive feedback.

The three residential winners were announced during the meeting; the third‑place winner was confirmed as the house at 184 Farm Street. Residents Adrian (145 Mendon Road) and household Keith and Susan Vansaiak (names given) were recognized as participants during the presentation of awards.

Committee members discussed suggestions for future events, including alternate voting methods for the decoration contest (in‑person judging or a small panel to avoid purely social‑media popularity voting) and ways to improve visibility for Santa on parade routes. One member said turnout was good but the parade moved quickly because participants and spectators were cold; another suggested better lighting for Santa and Mrs. Claus at stops.

Organizers also noted that a small amount of event inventory (necklaces, prizes, stuffed animals) was used up during the events; committee members said they will monitor stock and seek sales to replenish supplies.

"It was a great, collaborative event," one committee member said, thanking volunteers and the photographer who covered the events. Committee members asked staff to continue outreach to sponsors and to refine procedures for judging and voting on community contests.
