Cherokee County board approves updated teacher-resources policy and routine business items

At its Jan. 16 meeting the Cherokee County School District board approved an updated policy (BAB) emphasizing teacher input and print/digital resource balance, and approved routine minutes, consent items and the personnel/HR agenda.
The Cherokee County School District Board unanimously approved revisions to Policy BAB, which the superintendent’s staff said emphasizes teacher feedback, alignment with current standards and a balance between print and digital instructional resources.
Dr. Heath briefed the board on the proposed update, saying, “The school board has been unified by a core belief that was established in May of 20 24 and codified in policy BAB in December. Core belief number 2 says employees are trusted and supported as professionals and provided with resources to elevate student outcomes.” Heath said the draft adds “wide sweeping inclusion of teacher feedback” and clarifies print-versus-digital resource considerations. Board members who spoke during discussion highlighted the need for resources that are immediately available to teachers and that meet diverse student needs.
The board also approved routine business items at the meeting: minutes from the Dec. 12 work session and board meeting and minutes from the Jan. 7 called meeting were approved; consent agenda items 1 and 3 were approved; and the personnel/HR agenda was approved.

Board members said the policy changes respond to earlier feedback from principals and teachers and that the update will be posted for board records. The board did not adopt language establishing specific curricular materials; the action accepted the draft policy revisions discussed on Jan. 16.
