Board outlines process to appoint District 3 replacement after member resignation

The Cherokee County Board of Education received a legal briefing on Feb. 13 about the vacancy in District 3 after the resignation of board member Mr. Harmon.
Board attorney Abby Roche told the board that Chair Cromer and Superintendent Davis received Mr. Harmon's resignation on Dec. 20 and the board accepted the resignation on Jan. 16. In accordance with Georgia law, the board published an application for the seat on Jan. 17; the application period closed Jan. 31. The person appointed by the board will serve the unexpired portion of Mr. Harmon's term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2026.
Roche said the appointment item (action item No. 5) was removed from the consent agenda and will be considered individually at the business meeting that followed the work session.
