Cherokee County capital outlay update: new Cherokee High work underway, Free Home Elementary near completion

Capital outlay staff reported progress on the new Cherokee High School (above-ceiling inspections, exterior walls and athletic field work), said Free Home Elementary is about 99% complete and will open in August 2025, and noted Teasley Middle School drive improvements will come before the board in March.
Capital outlay staff briefed the Board of Education on construction and site work for multiple projects during the Feb. 13 work session.
The new Cherokee High School project is in active construction; staff reported above-ceiling inspections are underway, exterior walls at both field houses are complete, footings for baseball and ancillary athletic fields are in place, and landscaping and hardscape footings are beginning.
The Free Home Elementary replacement project is approximately 99% complete, staff said, with punch-list items and closeout documents pending. Fixtures, furnishings and equipment (FF&E) and technology installations are scheduled for spring; the facility is planned to open in August 2025. Staff said milestone activities for closing the existing facility and opening the new school are being scheduled.
Staff also reported projects in development, including drive improvements at Teasley Middle School that are expected to be presented to the board in March for consideration.
Capital outlay staff remained available for questions during the work session and did not request separate board action in the work session presentation.
