Kenneth Miller Sr., who identified himself as a local artist, told commissioners he grew up coming to the courthouse and said a mural of a buffalo in each entryway would “bring some life into the walls” and give visitors a warmer welcome. He provided sketches and said he could work three days at a time and would source supplies from Pierre.
“Right when you walk in, I want people to see a nice buffalo,” Miller said. “My price, if you want 2 of them, my price is 2,500 each for for a mural, and that’s not a lot, I think.” Commissioners thanked Miller and said they would discuss the request and follow up with him.
No formal action or vote was recorded during the meeting on Miller’s proposal. The county asked staff to take the proposal under advisement and to follow up about logistics and any approvals.
