MCTI reports rising enrollment, new programs and budget shifts to Pleasant Valley board

Monroe Career and Technical Institute Director Dr. Virga told the Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education on Feb. 13 that MCTI’s enrollment and state vocational subsidy increases are changing how the regional career center’s operating costs are allocated among sending districts.
The presentation outlined enrollment growth, construction progress on a planned addition and new program launches; it also described a recent rise in state vocational subsidy that MCTI returns to sending districts. That combination, Dr. Virga said, has reduced Pleasant Valley’s net cost for MCTI services in recent years while MCTI absorbs some one-time construction and program expansion expenses.
Dr. Virga said MCTI serves just under 1,200 students systemwide and that demand remains high: "at the start of the year, we had a wait list of over 500 students" and by the time of the board meeting about 340 applicants had not been admitted. He reported long‑term growth — about a 27%…
