Terry Ritter, president of the Cookeville Art Studio and Gallery, addressed the council during the public-comment portion to announce the group’s plans to host an Upper Cumberland Art Fair in July at Heidelberg’s Barn. Ritter said the gallery — a membership-based nonprofit that occupies a city-owned building on Walnut Street — has operated for 68 years and is planning the fair to encourage children’s participation in art with free activities funded through sponsorships.
Ritter said the event will include vendor booths, children’s painting and activity areas, food vendors, bouncy houses and a petting zoo. She said the gallery hopes to secure sponsors so “there's no cost to a child for anything” and that organizers may partner with community missions or backpack programs so admission could be an in-kind donation.
Council members responded with support; one council member said, “you definitely have my support,” and indicated willingness to attend.
