Several council members urged the city to first commission an independent IT and cybersecurity audit before committing to a new site. One councilmember noted that a security review could both identify vulnerabilities and help the city qualify for cybersecurity grants; staff reported that prior grant attempts were blocked by failing early assessment questions.
Staff described two related needs: (1) engaging a vendor to produce a modern, user-friendly website that allows department staff to keep their own pages and calendars updated, and (2) ensuring baseline IT controls and cybersecurity protections so a new site would not be immediately vulnerable. Staff estimated an initial redesign could cost in the low tens of thousands of dollars; one councilmember said a minimum estimate might be around $25,000, but the number is not final.
