Resident urges Brookings County to adopt setbacks and ordinances ahead of Summit Carbon Solutions hearing

"We must remain diligent in keeping residents of Brookings County informed about the new route and its potential risks," Minor said. She asked the commission to "implement ordinances and setbacks to protect the citizens of Brookings County before the upcoming summit hearing with the PUC." Minor also asked whether the county has any regulations specific to carbon pipelines and where that information can be found.
Minor thanked the commission for having filed party status with the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission and urged commissioners to attend the public sessions so they could hear local residents’ testimony. County staff and commissioners later discussed several public hearings scheduled in the region, with publicly noted events in the coming days in nearby communities.
The comments from Minor were presented during the agenda item that allows citizens five minutes to bring items before the commission; no formal action on local pipeline ordinances was recorded at the meeting.
