Pleasant Valley board approves new substitute pay tiers and $30 per-period coverage pay

The Pleasant Valley Community School District board voted to implement a new substitute teacher pay schedule and a teacher-coverage payment system, the board approved after staff presentation and discussion.

The new plan creates semester-based pay tiers for substitute teachers, increases long-term and retired-teacher rates, and adds a flat $30 payment to teachers who cover a colleague's class during a prep period. Under the schedule approved, substitutes will be paid $125 per day for 0–19 days in a semester, $135 for 20–29 days, $145 for 30–39 days, and $155 for 40–90 days. Long-term assignments of 4–8 consecutive weeks will receive $155; 9 or more consecutive weeks will receive $165. Retired district teachers and those covering professional-development assignments were raised to $165 for qualifying situations.
