District leaders presented results from the district's Daily Desired Experience (DDE) survey at the Jan. 13 board meeting, summarizing responses from students, families and staff collected in October.
The district said it offered the survey in English, Spanish and French and that family and student response counts rose compared with the prior year. Key summary results presented by staff included:
- Student responses: Highly satisfied declined slightly from 76% to 73% but the number of student respondents roughly doubled compared with the previous administration of the survey. - Family responses: Highly satisfied increased from 72% to 78%. - Staff responses: Highly satisfied increased from 68% to 71%.
District staff explained a methodological change in how the district classifies "satisfied to highly satisfied" for the vision card metric. Previously, an average response across multiple items had to be 4.0 or higher to count as satisfied/highly satisfied; the district reran historical data using a 3.5 threshold (midway between neutral and agree) so multi-year comparisons are consistent under the revised approach.
The presentation included an explanation of how the district will use results: all comments (with names redacted) will be provided to building leadership teams, buildings will review feedback during scheduled meetings, and a district environment committee made up of building representatives will work through district-level communication and professional-development implications. Buildings will hold focused reviews and produce improvement plans; district check-ins are scheduled in January, March and May.
Board members asked about survey length, question design and response rates. Staff said they balance survey length against response rates and provide opportunities for staff and families to complete the survey during structured time windows. Board members also discussed using the results to inform facilities conversations (for example, playground and recess concerns) and requested additional clarity in some comment buckets.
Nut graf: Why this matters
The DDE survey is a recurring district tool used to collect broad feedback from students, families and staff about daily experiences. The district said it will move results into building action plans and communicate planned follow-up work.
Ending
Staff said they will continue the DDE cycle, will attach all redacted comments to the presentation materials and will meet with building leaders to convert feedback into targeted improvement actions.
