Votes at a glance: Signal Mountain council approves ARPA-funded repairs, grant application and library appointment

At its Feb. 10 meeting the Town of Signal Mountain Council approved several resolutions and one appointment, using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for two projects and authorizing a grant application for the fire department.

Key votes and formal actions

- Fire Station 1 bay doors: The council approved a bid from Overhead Door of Chattanooga for replacement of Fire Station 1 bay doors in the amount of $30,317 using approved ARPA funds. Council discussion briefly questioned a custom-color option but staff did not have a line-item breakdown available at the vote. The motion passed.

- Rescue squad grant application: The council authorized the fire department to apply to the Rescue Squad Assistance Fund for rescue struts and related equipment. Town staff estimated a total grant request would be $21,765 if both proposed items were awarded. Council members discussed maintenance, training and mutual-aid replacement rules before approving the application.

- Pool restroom remodel: The council approved a bid from Ross Service Corporation for pool restroom remodeling in the amount of $160,163.35 using ARPA funds. Council members asked whether the restroom renovation would be completed by pool opening; staff and the contractor said that was the goal.

- Library board appointment: The council appointed Jay Woods to the library board after the library board made the recommendation.
