Board approves consent agenda, personnel report, Knickerbocker targeted-plan and other routine items; paid administrative leave approved

The Watertown City School District Board of Education carried a slate of routine and instructional items during its Sept. 11 meeting, approving the consent agenda and multiple resolutions listed on the meeting docket.

Key board actions recorded in the meeting transcript included:

- Approval of the consent agenda (items A and B). The meeting record indicates the motion carried.

- Approval of the 2025–26 Knickerbocker Elementary School Comprehensive Education Plan, which was submitted to New York State after the school’s identification as a targeted school under state accountability rules. The plan focuses on three action areas: explicit instruction, professional learning communities and instructional coaching. The board approved the plan.

- Certification of lead evaluators for principals: the board approved Dr. Larry Schmeichel, Lynn Gaffney, Tina Lane and Brianne Durham as certified lead evaluators of principals consistent with state education law and the district’s APPR plan.

- Certification of lead evaluators for teachers: the board approved district administrators presented as certified lead evaluators of teachers, consistent with state requirements.

- Approval of the personnel report covering resignations, appointments, probationary instructional and non‑instructional staff, literacy coordinators, Cyclone Academy positions, part‑time staff and substitutes.

- Authorization to dispose, recycle, auction or donate unused maintenance equipment and unused books from Watertown High School and Knickerbocker Elementary; the board approved processes consistent with New York State Comptroller guidance.

- Approval of extracurricular activities, clubs and advisors for H. T. Wiley Intermediate, Case Middle School and Watertown High School for the 2025–26 school year.

- Approval of educational trips as presented to the board.

- Acceptance of a $250 donation from StageNotes to support the Watertown High School AV Club.

- Approval of a paid administrative leave for a non‑instructional employee effective Sept. 14, 2025 (see separate article). The board approved the leave and then moved to executive session to continue personnel matters.
