Owasso reports mixed tax collections: February sales under budget, use tax at record high

Novozinski said use tax "hit a record high this month, coming in at 13% over prior year and 9% over budget," and suggested the variance in sales tax may reflect a timing shift in holiday shopping. She said the city receives use tax from the Oklahoma Tax Commission in the same manner as sales tax distributions.
Council members asked clarifying questions about the source of use tax (online purchases and out-of-state sales delivered into the state) and Novozinski confirmed the city receives those distributions from Oklahoma City via the Tax Commission. Novozinski said sales tax was about 4.4% under budget for the month and that the stronger use tax offset some of the shortfall when combined with January results.
